Oklahoma Sooners World Tour

By 17th May 2013January 8th, 2020No Comments

We were delighted to welcome the college athletes of the Oklahoma Sooners to Experience Gaelic Games this week.
The elite athletes included Quarter Back, Blake Bell (Football),Center – Gabe Ikard (Football), Full Back, Trey Millard (Football) and Morgan Reynolds (Volleyball).
The guys were a pleasure to be with as they tried out transferring their athletic skills to the Gaelic Games of Gaelic Football and Hurling.
As stars of one of the top teams in the Big 12 these guys are used of performing in front of crowds in excess of 85,000. They know what sporting pressure means! The day with Experience Gaelic Games was a little more relaxed and the spectating crowd was just the school students on lunch break.
After our introduction and overview of the cultural importance of Gaelic Games the crew took to the field.
See the results in the pics below –
As always with our sessions, the day was more full of fun and laughter than athletic achievements.
Even so, the guys mastered the basic skills pretty quickly. Good news for Sooner fans back home – you can rest assured that they’ve no plans to change their primary sporting code to Gaelic Games any time soon.
Later this week we’ll be taking them to a local club hurling game. There they’ll witness the pure passion of the fastest game on grass. 30 guys doing battle with big sticks and one small ball all just for the pride and honour of their community.
We’re looking forward to it.
