What a start to the New Year at Experience Gaelic Games. Our reputation as a fun thing to do in Dublin is beginning to travel. Indeed it’s now got so popular that we’ve attracted a visitor from Outer space. We’ve recently been delighted to host Commander Hadfield from the International Space Station.

Col. Hadfield and his wife Helene dropped by and were accompanied by our Minister for Tourism and Sport Leo Varadaker and Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons. It was a great fun day at Experience Gaelic Games. The crew arrived in the morning and after a quick photo shoot had lunch with the team.
Col. Hadfield was pretty handy with the hurl and sliothar. He’s a big Ice Hockey fan and as such was interested to hear of the origins of the work puck – the item played with in Ice hockey. You know when you strike a ball or Sliothar with a Hurley or Camán you póc the ball. This is believed to be the origins of the word Puck for Ice Hockey. As always in sport and culture- there is little that has not got an outside influence.
